JYJ Documentary Screening Cancelled

The theater screening of JYJ‘s documentary movie on the stars’ daily lives has suddenly been cancelled.

JYJ’s agency, C-JeS Entertainment, posted on January 30th on their official homepage, “We are announcing that the movie theater screening of JYJ’s documentary has unfortunately been cancelled. We would like to deeply apologize to all of the fans for cancelling the promised screening.“

On January 19th, C-JeS had originally announced, “JYJ’s daily life documentary, which was originally intended to be released last Winter, will be screened in theaters. We have prepared ‘The Day,’ the complete JYJ story, as a Valentine’s Day service to our fans. It will be shown in 20 CGV Theaters across the nation on January 29th.”

Many had been interested in the screening of “The Day,” due to the fact that it promised to show the JYJ members’ true thoughts and lives as they struggled with being restricted from TV appearances.

Regarding this, JYJ’s agency had previously commented, “We are very excited and happy to be able to show our fans the down-to-earth and easy-going lives of JYJ on the big screen at theaters. The documentary shows JYJ just as they are and the story is filled with honesty. We hope that it will become a great memory for fans on Valentine’s Day.”

Unfortunately, C-JeS revealed that CGV Theaters had suddenly cancelled the screening. C-JeS stated, “We started discussing business with CGV last December and had originally received verbal confirmation. Afterwards, we had our second meeting on January 16th and on the 19th, both parties had come to an agreement. It was only after we drafted the contract that we posted the news about the screening. We signed the contract on January 20th. However, on the 20th, we received a phone call from CGV and was told that the project was not approved by the final decision-maker. Thus, we were told that we had to start the contract process from the beginning again.”

C-JeS added, “We were told that CGV’s new manager has been reviewing all of the company’s current procedures. They have said that the screening of “The Day” has not followed the standard procedure so it will be difficult to show the movie. They have not said that it is absolutely impossible to screen the movie, but have just let us know that it is difficult at the time.“

C-JeS concluded, “CGV’s cancellation of the contract appears to be unfair, and we will be bringing up this case with both the Fair Trade Commission and the Ombudsman of Korea to obtain fair rights for JYJ.“
